Human First

Let's talk about sex. Stigma and discrimination regarding sexuality and gender are still pervasive in our world, making sexuality and gender very difficult to address. Our understanding of sexuality is driven by a variety of societal factors that are not linked to the humanity of a person. In this training, we will explore the science and social drivers behind sexuality and gender, while connecting the humanity of all participants.

Challenge: The best lesson comes from lived experience. To fully appreciate how the various forms of racism and discrimination affect people at the individual and systemic levels, one must experience it.

Numerous resources exist to teach employees, managers, instructors, and students about sexuality and gender discrimination. However, little exists that effectively elevates academic lessons into an experience that can be transformational.

Goal: To use experiential learning to demonstrate the root causes and effects of sexuality and gender discrimination, driving personal and professional growth.

Objectives:

  • To challenge how we perceive and understand sexuality and gender bias
  • To identify the natural states of human sexuality and gender
  • To articulate the need for corrective action and inspire change in the organization

Format: In-person workshops, live virtual delivery, or licensing curriculum

Duration: 2-2.5 hours

Options: Stand-alone training or incorporate into broader curriculum

What to Expect:

  • Academic principles driven by engaging activities
  • Data driven conversations to encourage self-reflection
  • Potential for an emotional revelation

What NOT to Expect:

  • Participants are not separated by any imputable characteristics.
  • There is no shaming through identification of personal privilege.
  • Does not involve re-harming people with disadvantage by asking them to share their experience.
